    1. I received an unproofed ARC of this book for free from the author in exchange of an honest review. (And I couldn't be more happy as I could read books 2 & 3 in quick succession!)Personal rating: 4 starsI thoroughly enjoyed book 3, as much as I did book 2. It takes off exactly where book 2 left off and progresses quite well. I feel as if the story expanded well throughout the series - we are being introduced to more characters and more action is happening, including the beginnings of war.Neve [...]

    2. When I originally started the Horse Mistress series, I thought it would be a trilogy only, especially since there are 3 main characters. I assumed each would get a book that would be more about that character. I was wrong. Book 3 amps up the action, but it is far from over. That’s why we have book 4 and the epilogue short story exclusive to the 4-book collection. So let’s get into book 3 and what it entails. For the plot, our trio is trying to get back to their new normal after the rescue fro [...]

    3. More character whump. This time it was Andoc, as the tribe prepares to fight the Empire that has taken over the southern part of their island. The book took some twists and turns I didn't expect, though I knew from book 2 that there would be a big meeting of the island's tribes. The three protagonists have gotten better at supporting each other, though each one still has a tendency to take everything on themselves. Fortunately, the other two are there to talk some sense into the one doing that. E [...]

    4. This series continues to be fantastic. I really appreciate that the plot continues to escalate, with higher stakes each book. In this book specifically, I was glad that the story actually dealt with the psychological repercussions of the trauma Carivel experienced in the last book. It was especially great that Carivel goes to talk to someone as a counselor, which I'm not sure I've ever seen in a historical-ish fantasy before. I have a personal and professional interest in caring for emotional tr [...]

    5. The steamy scenes are all the same, rather boring. I like the general idea of the story. I will read the last book just to see what happens.

    6. Fully half this book is filled not with story but with extended, detailed sex scenes. I don't want to read about how other people have sex!The story itself is pretty bleak, with a gay young man deciding he'd rather become a eunuch than stay closeted, a threat of invasion, and a massacre. There are also some "Clan of the Cave Bear" style discoveries, such as writingTypos: Chapter 6 "And, of course, he'd done so in such away that" A way is two words, not one.Chapter 7 "He is happy enough the lead t [...]

    7. "The Horse Mistress Book Three" received 3 stars. The novel gained *STARS* for these items: * gained for: "The book caught my interest in first five pages."* gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."* gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I want more!" (I think a small part of me will always crave to live in Carivel's world where she is surrounded by two wonderful men and complete acceptance.)The novel failed to gain stars [...]

    8. I still have so much love for this series! Who knew kinky polyamorous fantasy would be my happy place? The extra attention Andoc got in this book was great. Can't believe there's only one more book to go now.

    9. Wow! This story just keeps sucking me right back in. The story arc that started in book one is still continuing (so I recommend starting with book 1 which is a freebie download), and I'm dying to know if these three finally get a HEA instead of just a HFN. I NEED BOOK 4!!
