    1. I started reading this book only hoping to read a little before doing something that needed my attention. I should have known better because I was instantly hooked. I had to devour the book, and I did, in one sitting. Yeah, it was that good. I actually adored Laraspur. She is a relatable character and whose problems could be sympathized with by the reader. Her problems are more internal and emotional so it was interesting to see how she dealt with the problems. I don't think her problems were as [...]

    2. I've been a huge fan of The Wilderhark Tales from the beginning of the series, but this is my favorite thus far!Let me explain. In the previous books, I simple adored Edgwyn, and I thought there wouldn't be anyone who would ever compare to him. Boy was I wrong! The story begins with Edgwyn telling his daughter, Laraspur, about a rival between the Sun and Moon over a beautiful princess. Flash forward a few years and Laraspur is of age to meet men and marry. She feels over-shadowed by her beautifu [...]

    3. In some ways this book probably doesn’t deserve 5 stars. There aren’t any big surprises, no twists, I mean everything is basically laid out right at the beginning. And yet this book felt more like a fairy tale than any of the others. The closest fairy tale that I know to compare this to would be East of the Sun, West of the Moon, but only vaguely. Because, while the others were clearly retellings, and even going a bit silly about it at times, this wasn’t one that was glaringly obvious, if [...]

    4. This darn book was too short! I loved the relationships (especially the familial relationships--I'm a sucker for a close family, and this provided a lovely example of that), the adventure, the physical representations of nature as people, and even the love story! My only problem was that this book ended too soon for me. I wanted more time with the characters. I wanted to revel in the outcome a little more, and explore these relationships further (well, most were pretty thoroughly explored, but I [...]

    5. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Starting this book:Finding out Villem and Ursula are gone???"Oh, Wilhelmina!? WE HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU TO FIX"[[the fact they went so close together]]Ionquin and Laraspur(It would be me hugging them.)The scene where Sun becomes a total jerkface.Legit my face. The settings at the climax of the story: Me looking over Laraspur's shoulder. The ending: I cried. This book was awesomeAD IT.There will be more detail in the review over on my bl [...]

    6. Beautifully written, The Sun's Rival lives up to the series' reputation! It brings a delightful mix of old, familiar characters and introduces intriguing new ones who leap off the page right into the mind's eye! In a nice change of pace we get to spend a bit of time with some of our favorite characters relaxed in their normal (for fairytale royalty) lives. This story brings wonderful depth to the family dynamic, highlighting sibling relationships in particular, both healthy and unhealthy. A deli [...]

    7. EEP, I LOVE THIS STORY.This is a beautiful, creative retelling of Psyche and Cupid, with elegant, gorgeous imagery. Powerful as a sunrise, but gentle as moonlight, this story will sweep you away on a storm. With the return of favorite characters, and the introduction of several new ones, The Sun's Rival is a lovely addition to The Wilderhark Tales, and probably my favorite book in the series so far.

    8. So many wonderful characters live in Wilderhark and its environs! Every book brings me a new favorite. As lovely as my new favorite is (a certain know-it-all prince) the thing that strikes me the most is the message about love at first sight. It rang true for me, as someone who has experienced it myself, and seeing my exact feelings in someone else's words is a beautiful thing.

    9. I just finished reading this. It was a lovely and very enjoyable story! I loved that Laraspur wanted to be loved for a deeper reason than for beauty, that she wanted to be loved for who she is. Her willingness to be self-sacrificing for her sister was touching, as well. If you like fairytale stories, this is a great one to read!

    10. I loooooved it! I adore how you combine fantasy, adventure and romance into a story I can't put down. I have read all the Wilderhawk Tales and each one is better than the last.
