    1. I read this book initially because I was researching and writing about Ida B. Wells and this book's first chapter is on her. It was also written by my professor. The Wells chapter was simply marvelous. It was a deep look into Wells's work as a foreign correspondent in London while campaigning against the American crime of lynching. Totten's scholarship is top notch and helpful in corroborating and moving forward my own work. He brings together voices from around the globe--appropriate for a book [...]
