Tarantula When theraphosids were encountered in the Americas, they were named tarantulas, causing usage of the term to shift to the tropical spiders.Nevertheless, these spiders belong to the infraorder Mygalomorphae, and are not closely related to wolf spiders. The name tarantula is also incorrectly applied to other large bodied spiders, including the purseweb spiders or atypical tarantulas, the Spider Identification My dad was cleaning out our garage the other day and in one of are storage things out there he found , about a size of a quarter, dark black spiders. 1. The first thing to note about the book is how short it is. "Crushed Mexican Spiders" is a mere 12 pages on small pages and "Possibly Forty Ships" is 20 pages. The book is nicely put together, a dinky hardback with the stories printed flipside by side so you have to turn the book around to read the other story when you've finished the other one, and the jacket is nicely designed. And that's basically what you're paying for, a nicely put together book with some ok-ish but very short stories. "CMS" [...]

    2. Ok. So firstly I think I should say I'm not sure if these two short stories should actually constitute a book, however whether they do or not they are very much worth reading. Crushed Mexican Spiders is a interesting piece about identity, and the loss of it in a large city like London. I think this was the story I liked least of all, mainly because it felt oddly unfinished. I was left feeling unsatisfied whom I had completed it, this may however be the author's intention. The brilliant descripti [...]

    3. Tibor Fischer keeps hisplace on my list of all-time funniest, wittiest of writerly writers. Two short punchy short stories sparkle with his ususal black humour. Pick up a copy wherever good books are sold. i actually got mine second-hand. Very groovy.

    4. Honestly, these two short-ass stories are not up to much. The first is your standard "we are all invisible" big-city story and adds nothing to our understanding of anything, plus doesn't go anywhere except the obvious. The second is a great idea but way too short. I love economy of language in stories, Hemingway my favourite short-story author, but this is economy of everything, plot included. Does not parse. Overall, avoid. Another sub-par Unbounders publication. This model basically ensures the [...]

    5. This book is a winner not just in terms of its physical innovation - two short stories of approximately 5000 words each and - get this - read from different sides, each with its own cover and author profile! I loved both stories. Possibly Forty Ships is a recounting of the Trojan War. In Crushed Mexican Spiders, I loved the nuances in the city-weary voice of the protagonist. Unbound, the publisher, has a pretty interesting model in that its books, including this one, are crowd-funded.

    6. Two very brief stories. The first describes a postmodern process of becoming lost in the swirling everything that is connected to modern society, particularly in urban settings. The second is an exploration of the Trojan war, emphasizing the way how it was told to everyone being so different from the way it actually happened. Enjoyable, short, and with a fair share of dark humor for good measure.

    7. Two short stories. Crushed Mexican Spiders is a clever pastiche of Kafka transplanted into the 21st Century. Possibly Forty Ships gets the 5-star rating though. A fantastically rude and very funny retelling of the Trojan war. Much shorter than the version in the Aeneid and a lot more fun.
