    1. Books by this author always appeal to me since her stories and photographs focus on animals, and highlight some aspect of the rural world with which many of today's youngsters will be unfamiliar. This picture book describes how Rena, the runt of the litter, and Roo, a scruffy burro, become friends and an integral part of life on a sheep ranch in Wyoming. These guardians keep close watch over the lambs and protect them from predators or unwanted intruders. The large photographs trace the animals' [...]

    2. Urbigkit,C. (2011). The Guardian Team: On the Job with Rena and Roo. Honesdale, Pennsylvania: Boyds Mills PressThis was a cute Non-Fiction children's book. It featured the lives of two animals, Roo, an orphaned wild burro also known as a donkey who was rescued by the authors family and is now living as a livestock guardian on their ranch in Wyoming. Rena was the runt of a liter of 7 and was constantly fighting with her larger siblings. Rena was brought to the ranch when she was only 3 months old [...]

    3. The Guardian Team is a beautifully-presented children’s book about a donkey and a Great Pyrenees dog who are trained to be guard animals for a flock of sheep. Children and adults alike will enjoy the crisp color photos depicting the animals growing up and taking responsibility for the wooly charges. Rena and Roo are part of a small but growing movement to make ranching more wildlife-friendly by employing livestock guardian animals, rather than the old way of ranchers shooting, poisoning, and t [...]

    4. This is a very cute book about a orphan donkey and a runt of the litter dog that learn to guard orphan sheep as they grow up. This is something that can be very important on ranches as the farm animals need someone to watch out for them so the are not killed by predators. The pictures do a great job of illustrating the story so that it is easy to understand what the animals are doing.I chose to pair this book with one called Twist and Ernest by Laura T. Barnes and illustrated by Carol A. Camburn [...]

    5. I originally picked up this book because I was looking for something on sheep. At first I was unsure how I would enjoy it because so many books of this sort are the same old overly simple "this animal is friends with this animal" concept and are so full of excess sweet that you get sick from it half way through. This book may be simple enough for very young children, but it is not afraid to add longer words to a child's vocabulary in a way that they can easily understand. The premise of animal f [...]

    6. Very sweet book about a puppy and an orphaned burro who learn how to work together as guardians of orphaned sheep. Very nice, simple story line and great photographs.

    7. I always enjoy these photo-picture stories about unexpected animal symbiotic relationships. This story is a cute read about a burro and a dog who work together to guard a flock of sheep.

    8. I love reading books like this to my PJ Storytimers (1st-4th graders)! Great photos and a nice story about animals - what child doesn't like animals?

    9. Rena the dog and Roo the burro learn to trust one another, and work as a team to herd and guard the sheep.
