I wasn't honestly sure how well these two cuisines would mesh together, although I realized as I read the cookbook that they have a lot of similarities such as preference for pork and pork-based products, corn, pickled food, mayo, potatoes, fried chicken, and apparently vegetable cooking techniques (boil the hell out of it). The author, who was born in the US and raised in both Guatemala and the US, has a unique perspective on the two cultures. She makes some interesting concoctions such as the [...]

    2. I tried the butternut squash soup with chipotle and bacon, and it was delicious. But I think that the main dish/meat -based recipes are too fruit heavy for my taste, with lots of tamarind, mango, guava, etc.
